Mr. Wilson, taken aback, raised one eyebrow in surprise. “Wise young man. I was in this story indeed. But I wasn’t Jack. I was the bully.”
Billy’s jaw dropped. “That’s right, Billy. You see, people are capable of great change. Even those who were dealt a bad hand in life. When I was shown kindness from the one person from whom I least deserved it, well, it made me see the world differently. I realized that being bad is a choice.” Billy nodded his head.
“From that day forward, I knew I had to do something different in order to be the good person that was inside me all along. So that’s why I’m a counselor. I now have the gift of parting this wisdom to little boys and girls who, well, remind me too much of myself.”
Billy tried to conceal his teary sniffles with a rolled up sleeve. “It wasn’t too late for me, Billy. And it isn’t too late for you.”

Second chances can be hard to come by. The reason? Most people who need to change their ways don’t realize that they can.
