Recent media has put a spotlight on United States police officers–and many brave men and women have been lumped into an undeserved category. After an enormous backlash from the public, tensions are at a high and officers are beginning to feel segregated from their communities.
With the anti-police movement, it seems that the same people who call out for justice are only severing humanity’s common bond. Instead of perpetuating the division, police across the nation are actively trying to close that gap that separates citizen from officer.
The Hampton Police Department created a video entitled “Why I wear the badge.” In the video, officers openly divulge personal and life-changing stories that they encountered as police officers.

It’s not sensationalized; it’s the raw and honest reality. A police officer’s job is a calling, but a dangerous one at that. And even though they risk their lives every day–they do it with pride. They are our unsung heroes.
