A Facebook user’s tribute to his deceased mother has recently gone viral. In it, he explained the grit and determination that was needed as she raised the family as a single mother in a small rural town.
I’m 62 yrs old and remember when I was a child. My mother worked in a sewing factory and raised my 4 siblings and I without any kind of help or support from our father. He cheated on her and divorced her. He never paid child support .
Mom worked in a sewing factory for $1.65 an hour. There were no local food banks and I remember many nights when Mom did not eat supper so that what little food we had would go further for my siblings and I remember when she cut her hand to the bone on broken glass. It really needed stitches but she would not go to E.R. because we had no health insurance. In our small rural area there were no public safety nets. The scar she carried for over 50 years looked like she should have gotten at least a dozen stitches. She bandaged it, wore a glove over it and did not miss a single day from work.
My mother is my hero and when she passed away 5 years ago the world lost one of it’s best.
