When Coach Buzz Williams noticed that his players were goofing off during the National Anthem, he made sure that they learned a valuable lesson that would carry them through the rest of their lives. Thanks to this dedicated coach, these young men will never forget what it means to be an American.
To drive his point home, the Coach arranged to have his players meet face to face with war veterans. Coach William delivered an impressive speech to the young men, explaining who was, in fact, responsible for the boys’ freedom.
He emphasized that without the effort of veterans, the young men wouldn’t even have the opportunity to play basketball. “These guys, when they were your age, interrupted their life, they paused their education, they changed their career, and they gave their life for those chairs.”
The young men shared a look of newly found respect for the war heroes as young man and veteran, side-by-side, shared in the song of the National Anthem.
