Officer Feared For The Worst After Being Approached During A Stop. Then This Happened.

When Georiga Deputy Brandon Wiggins of Heard County Sheriff’s Department witnessed a truck driver run a stop sign, he stopped the man to write him a citation. All of the sudden, a second driver pulled up, got out of his vehicle and rushed to the officer’s side. The Deputy’s heart began to race as he feared the situation could turn dangerous.

But everything changed when the second driver explained the reason for the first driver’s behavior. The two were father and son, and they were headed to a hospital where the grandfather had been admitted after suffering a stroke.

Before the family left for the hospital, the man looked the officer in the eyes and thanked him for his service. That’s when he asked the Deputy if he could pray for him. The three bowed their heads in a shared, sacred experience. The Deputy was taken so off-guard by the uncanny moment that he lost track of his surroundings.

He was oblivious to the fact that the whole thing was caught on his dashboard camera. But once he saw the footage, the Deputy decided to share it with the world. He posted the video along with this statement to his Facebook page.

Deputy Wiggins recounted what he saw at the traffic stop:

“I immediately start running situations through my head, and praying for the best. I’m nervous, and praying to God that nothing is going to happen, as I get back out of my car, I see a man and a woman exiting the vehicles, my hand close to my gun and my heart pounding, all while still watching the driver of the truck.”

Wiggins said that the man told him what had happened:

“I relaxed just a little and explained to him the reasoning for the stop, he then proceeded telling me about his father being in the hospital and having a stroke.”

Then the man asked the Deputy to pray with him.

“My heart sank and as he prayed for me and my brothers in blue and my eyes filled with tears, I was at a loss for words, this man with all he had going on, stopped to pray for me. As I walked away I was in total shock. Thank you sir for taking time out of your day to pray for us. God bless you and your family.”

With all the recent tension in the police community, the Deputy feared the worst. But this heartwarming experience reminded him that it’s not all bad out there. Plenty still support our men in blue.
