Earl and Maxine had just spent a long weekend with their children and new grand baby. They had a wonderful visit, but Earl always gets a bit impatient when he’s away from the comfort of his home for too long.
He’s a bit of a homebody.
Earl hoped to beat rush hour, but their grumbling tummies had another plan, and a bacon sandwich sounded positively scrumptious.
Emmitsburg posted this funny story about an old couple who got into a bit of a squabble during a drive home.
Here’s what happened.
On their way home from visiting their children, an elderly couple stopped at Annette’s Roadside Diner for lunch. After finishing their meal, they left the restaurant and resumed their trip.
As they departed, Maxine unknowingly left her glasses on the table. And she didn’t miss them until after they had been driving about 20 minutes.
By then, to add to the aggravation, they had to travel quite a distance before they could find a spot in the road to turn around in order to return to the diner and retrieve her glasses.
All the way back, Maxine’s husband Earl became the classic grouchy old man. He fussed and complained and scolded his wife relentlessly during the entire return drive. The more Earl chided her, the more agitated he became. He just wouldn’t let up one minute.
To her relief, they finally arrived at the diner and as the woman got out of the car and hurried inside to retrieve her glasses, the old geezer yelled to her, “While you’re in there, you might as well get my hat and the credit card.”
So typical!
Earl was lucky that his wife discovered her missing item before they had gotten even further! Her husband spent so much energy giving her a hard time; he almost didn’t realize a fault of his own.
They certainly wouldn’t have gotten very far without that credit card of his.
Someone deserves an apology…
