Noland was abandoned, afraid and unloved. The opening chapter of this puppies life were, unfortunately, no different than millions of other animals each year. After being found in a garage in very poor conditions, the one day old puppy was taken to a shelter in Cleveland Ohio.
After his arrival, the black and white puppy was met with a team of individuals specifically tasked with deciding how to handle the young puppy. They settled upon leaving the puppy in the care of a stray cat that had just recently given birth to a litter of kittens. It was a long shot, but the tension was relieved when the cat greeted Noland as if he where a late addition to her litter. It was easy to see that the puppy had a new family; a family that would give him a chance his owners deprived him of.
This Fox8 segment chronicles the puppies intake to the shelter and it’s amazing adoption into a new feline family – all thanks to a mother cat named Lurlene. Some cats won’t take in a stray kitten into her litter – let alone an infant of a completely different species. In the video the workers at the shelter acknowledge this grim truth; noting that not all puppies are lucky enough to have a cat like Lurlene around to take them in.
The team says that despite his troubled beginnings Noland is set for a bright and happy future. They are giving the puppy extra food on top of the regular feedings it get’s from Lurlene; who, it can be noted, nervously watches on as Noland receives any sort of care from the shelter. This is the ultimate testament to how passionate and loving animals can be; the mother cat blindly loves the newest addition to her litter, and continues to watch after him as such.
As for the puppies original owners? Noland’s mother was found chained up, extremely thin and in no condition to raise puppies of her own; let alone take care of herself. The owner was convicted of animal neglect. Eventually, as Noland grew he was placed into a larger litter of puppies to grow up in. Every kitten and dog of the respective litters were adopted – even Lurlene! The story brought the shelter a Petco Foundation grant for $25,000, thanks to the unconditional love a cat had for a small puppy with no one else to turn to.
