You Won’t Believe How One Man Defended Himself Against An Attacking Bear

Some of you may have heard what to do in case you encounter a bear, either from the scouts or from TV.

It usually goes something like this: if the bear is smaller than you, like a black bear, then open your arms wide and let loose a bellowing roar, the most intimidating one you can muster. If the bear is bigger than you, like a grizzly or brown bear, then they say to play dead. If you come across a polar bear…there might not be a chance for you.

There’s no telling if the playing dead routine actually works, but a Swedish man demonstrated how effective screaming can be.

The man was in the woods when a black bear came charging towards him out of the brush. The man stood his ground, opened his arms wide, and roared at the bear. The bear immediately backed off, as if it was thinking “nope, nope, nope, not this guy”.

The word “bad-ass” would be a good way to describe this Swedish man. To stand your ground and keep your wits about you while a wild animal is charging you is no small feat. And to scare it off like that? His viking ancestors must be proud.
