It has almost been 100 years since the Emerson High School in Oklahoma City was shut down. After all of this time, it was finally reopened by contractors for the first time.

They were supposed to remove all of the outdated chalk boards and replace them with newer white boards, but what they discovered had them hesitating. They found that the chalk boards were nearly untouched by time.

All of the lessons taught almost 100-years-ago remained in mint condition. From the multiplication table to lessons of cleanliness, it all remained.

A real interesting find was the script. “The penmanship blows me away, because you don’t see a lot of that anymore,” Emerson High School Principal Sherry Kishore mentioned to mentioned to the Oklahoman. “Some of the handwriting in some of these rooms is beautiful.”

Not only were there curricular lessons remaining, but also lessons in music and playful chalk drawings.

The city and school district are now working to preserve this little piece of history.
