A Veteran Celebrating His 92nd Birthday Was Shocked When A Kindhearted Guest Covered His Bill

Bob Nieman and his elderly father were at an Outback Steakhouse with a small group of family friends, celebrating the veteran’s 92nd birthday. When the meal was over, they expected to see a large tab on their bill. To their surprise, the waiter returned with a check reading “Thank you for your service!!” and signed anonymously as “Very Grateful Americans.”

The total for their meal, $58.59, was paid for in full by a kindhearted stranger.

The veteran’s son was eager to find out who carried out the thoughtful gesture. According to the waiter, the couple sitting across from them footed the bill, but they had already left long before their meal was finished. Both Nieman and his father were surprised by the act of compassion and gratitude from the couple.

During WWII, Nieman served as a crewman on the USS Lexington CV 16 and helped fight the Japanese at the Battle of the Coral Sea. His son, a retired police officer who served for 27 years, was brought to tears when he saw someone appreciated his father’s sacrifice and bravery for his country.
