In China, You Can Buy ‘Animal Cruelty On A Keychain’ For $1.50

China is the epitome of new money. In the past couple of years, China’s economy has exploded due to export sales. Because of this,China’s rapidly growing middle and upper class are beginning to spend their new wealth on accessories and cool toys.

One such accessory comes in the form of a $1.50 “good luck keychain”.

It sounds pretty harmless at first, but the keychains are actually sealed plastic containers that contain live animals such as soft shell turtles and fish.

The animals can survive in the bags due to the nutrients and crystallized oxygen in the water.

Sadly, the animals eventually suffocate or starve to death in the end after they use up all of the nutrients.

Since they’re so cheap, they can just buy a new one when the animal dies.

As westerners, we have to remember that China’s cultural morals concerning animals are drastically different than ours. Is this practice barbaric? Or is it just an imaginary issue caused by a cultural gap?
