When stories about animals learning something or doing something intelligent reach circulation, its normally a dog or dolphin in the spotlight. Cats are almost never featured, as for some reason they have a bad rep as furry untrainable balls of disdain.
While it’s not totally untrue that cats are usually not as receptive to training as dogs are, this cat shows that they are still smart enough to get what they need.
For most cats, an exuberant “Meow!” is all it takes to get a human to come running with treats, cuddles, or whatever else they might want. However this cat was dealt an unusual hand, for his owner is actually deaf.
After a few meows went unnoticed, the cat learned a few tricks to signal his owner, literally! With a paw to the nose, the cat has learned some simple sign language signs to let the owner know what he needs.
Cats can learn just as well as any other animal, it just takes a creative approach.
