Officers Line Up To Give An Emotional Final Salute To Their Four Legged Companion

Every officer deserves a proper send off, even the four-legged ones.

K-9 dog Sultan had been working with police officers in the Yarmouth Police Department in Maine for the majority of his life. For 9 years he worked beside handler Mike Vogel. When Mike got a position in Florida, Sultan retired and went to work with Shane Stephenson in South Portland.

Recently, the officers have noticed Sultan’s decline in health. Sultan had 3 seizures, wouldn’t eat, and couldn’t walk anymore. There was only one thing to do at that point.

It was time to end Sultan’s pain, but before that, officers from Southern Maine paid the K-9 a visit hours before it was time to go to the vet. Everyone stood in formation to pay their respects then it was time to escort him the veterinary office.

Shane Stephenson carried Sultan in his arms to the vet while the officers lined up to give their last salute.
