Kenneth Shinozuka is a 15-year-old boy who spends a lot of time with his grandfather, Deming, who suffers from Alzheimer. One day, Kenneth was greeted by police officers who informed him that his grandfather was out, wandering about.
He knew something had to be done to prevent his grandfather from wandering off and hurting himself. He tried looking for a device that would alert him whenever his grandfather was on the move, but no such device existed, so he took it upon himself to invent it.
He created a sensor that reacts to pressure and applied it to the bottom of the socks worn by Alzheimer patients. The second they leave their beds, someone will know about it.
Kenneth got an internship at the Alzheimer’s Association where his invention is being used on a number of patients with astounding results. So far, his invention has detected Deming’s wandering 437 times without a single false alarm.
We’re hoping we see more of Kenneth and his invention in the near future.
