What An Army Vet Did As He Lay In A Hospital Bed Brought Everyone To Tears

Josh Hergis, an Army Ranger with the 3rd Ranger Battalion, was severely injured when a suicide bomber blew herself up. But after the horrific incident, even while Hergis lay in his hospital bed covered in bandages and hopped up on pain medications, he still went beyond the call of duty by saluting his commanding officers from the hospital bed.

This gesture brought Hergis’ Battalion, other Army Rangers and military leaders to tears during a Purple Heart ceremony at his hospital room in Afghanistan and was really a great sign of progress in his recovery from this wounded recovery.

Before he was transferred from Germany to the U.S., the Ranger Regimental Commander performed the Purple Heart ceremony at his bedside. But as he leaned over Hergis, the resilient ranger — who was believed to be unconscious during the ceremony– pushed away his doctor so that he could properly salute his commander.

This was truly a beautiful gesture and just shows how important discipline and camaraderie are among the Army Rangers.
