7-year-old Chen Xiaotian was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor just a few months before his mother, Zhou Lu, was diagnosed with a kidney disease.
When the doctors said he had only a short time to live, he decided to make a final sacrifice in order to ensure the survival of his beloved mother.
Both mother and son, were fighting debilitating diseases at the same time.
Eventually, the young boy became completely blind and near paralyzed.
As his mother’s condition worsened, doctors informed her that a kidney transplant would be the key to saving her. And her dying son’s was a perfect match.
At first she refused to let her son go, but after overhearing the conversation with doctors the young boy insisted that the surgery take place.
Eventually she gave in to his demands. knowing that a piece of him would live on inside her.
As doctor’s cut off his life support, they gave a moment of silence for the boy then proceeded with the surgery.
The surgery was a success, and now Zhou Lu lives a healthy life thanks to the sacrifice of her son.
It’s impossible to imagine the emotions running through a parents mind as their only child dies in order to save their life, but at least this mother can live on knowing that there is always a little piece of young Chen inside her — keeping her alive.
