Chairs are a decent invention. They’re there when you need to rest, kick up your feet, maybe eat something. And the world of upholstery has seen a plethora of beautiful craftsmanship, both functional or down right artsy.
It’s hard to explain what category these chairs fall under. Are they upholstery or are they art? Is the man who made them, Maximo Riera, an upholsterer or an artist? Spoiler alert: he’s an artist.
Riera makes some serious incredible pieces, from octopi to hippos, each one of his designs are slathered in detail. Looking at it at the wrong angle and you can easily mistake his art for a live animal.
The hippopotamus is a relatively new design but also the last design to use the color black as Riera wants to exchange with more natural tones, like this rhino chair.
