She Met A Man For The First Time, But Instantly Recognized Him

When 21 year old Rebekah Aversano lost her dear brother Joshua in a fatal car accident, no one saw it coming. The suddenness and finality of the loss of Joshua was probably too much to bear. In spite of that, Aversano made the life-saving decision to gift a stranger her brother’s face.

The stranger in question was named Richard Norris. Norris’s face was torn apart by a shotgun accident. He spent almost two decades after the accident trying to rebuild his life and his face. Even though Norris was lucky to be alive, the trauma of the accident combined with the disfigurement caused him to suffer from suicidal thoughts and feelings of isolation.

This video is a segment of the 60 minutes story about the ordeal. In the segment Rebekah meets Norris for the first time with her brother’s face. She declares “wow, this is the face I grew up with” after she touches is for the first time.

The operation was difficult, but successful. Norris even posed for GQ magazine after the surgery. It’s truly inspiring that Rebekah was able to look through her grief to save another person’s life.
