Land’s End England is the first and last place most visitors to the country see. What most people don’t see is this amazing house made out of a WW2 listening post.
The bunker was built in 1942 and was used to listen to both Allied and Axis radar communications. The Ministry of Defense decommissioned the bunker in 1982, after which it was used to store potatoes. When the current owners bought the bunker it still had old military equipment inside.
Converting the bunker proved to be quite challenging. When they tried to put nails into the wall the steel reinforcements would make them ricochet back. They also had to raise the floor and lower the ceiling to accommodate modern insulation and electrical wiring.
It was impossible to move any of the existing walls because they are three feet thick. The house has to use special mirrored skylight tubes drilled to the surface that let in air and light.
Even though it was difficult to create this bunker house is a truly a unique place to live.
