He Was Showing Off His Large Catch, But Wasn’t Ready For What Came Next

Sea Lions aren’t typically aggressive towards humans, but this story about a San Diego resident shows that anything is possible.

Daniel Carlin of Carmin Valley San Diego went fishing with his wife one afternoon. He caught an impressive fish and his wife decided to snap a quick picture of Daniel posing with the fish. When he stopped to take the photo a sea lion jumped out of the water and latched onto the fish.

The fish also caught a chunk of Daniel’s hand along with the fish, and pulled the two down at lightning fast speeds. At this moment, Daniel believed that “he was going to die.” His wife stood helplessly on the deck of the boat waiting for signs of Daniel.

Luckily, Daniel was able to free himself from the Sea Lion’s grip. Apparently he felt the sea lion nip at his heels when reboarded the boat. The sea lion was most likely interested in the fish, but the sea lion may have been threatened when he saw that Daniel was underwater with him.
