Usually, when you hear about cheating in schools, it comes in the form of the students trying to pull one over on the teachers, trying to get the most out of their test scores. This has happened on a national scale in India, and is also quite prevalent in High Schools and colleges around the United States.
But in this case, the tables have been turned upside down. Eleven former educators from Atlanta, Georgia have been caught up in a major national cheating scandal, inflating students’ test scores for their own personal financial gain.
Beverly Hall, the superintendent, was allegedly the mastermind behind the the entire scheme. She collected approximately $500,000 in bonuses after being awarded SuperintendentĀ of the Year due to the remarkable increase in her student’s test scores.
According to the Daily Mail, she payed individual teachers up to $5,000 each to inflate student score for her own personal gain.
11 educators that stood trial were found guilty under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, which is typically used onĀ big-time mobsters and organized crime bosses. They now face up to 20 years in prison.
This is some very serious school board corruption and deserves to be dealt with accordingly.
