After 25-year-old Damien Strickland was struck from behind and dragged into his house by two home invaders during an attempted home robbery, his dog, Legend, took notice and began to defend his owner.
When they saw the large bullmastiff mix headed toward them, the robbers shot the dog twice, including once in the head. After shooting the dog, Damien’s girlfriend, who was also inside began to scream and the two men fled the scene.
When police and emergency crew arrived, they blocked off the area and began searching for the perpetrators. They eventually found two men nearby who fit the description given to them. One of the men was bleeding and attempting to hide a wound that looked liked a dog bite. On closer inspection, it was a dog bite. A fresh one at that.
It turns out, before he was shot, Legend was able to penetrate the legs of one of the robbers with his powerful jaw, hindering their ability to get away, which ultimately helped the police locate the criminal.
Legend was taken to an animal hospital soon after police arrived and despite suffering two gunshot wounds is expected to make a full recovery.
Thanks to the actions of heroic pooch a home invasion was prevented and two criminals are off the streets.
