A salute is a powerful gesture and one that has been used for ages. The pioneers of the salute would be the Medieval knights who would greet each other by lifting the visor of their helms to show their faces.
Since then the salute has been used to show respect and duty in military forces. With so much history, it’s no wonder why the salute has become some a huge symbol.
You can only imagine how much it means for this woman who just became a Second Lieutenant in the Marines to do her first salute to her last family member to who joined the Marines, her grandfather who is a retired Staff Sargent
Though, as powerful of a gesture the salute is, nothing can beat a big old fashioned hug.
