The alps are home to a diverse population of wild life. You may even have your occasional run in with a Marmot, but they usually show little interest in seeking a friendship with humans. That is unless you are Matteo Walsh, a young boy who would frequent the region on vacation.
Marmots are essentially like giant squirrels. Weighing in at about 17 pounds.

In autumn, these large squirrels can be found mainly in the mountainous regions of the alps. When Walsh was on a family vacation at age 4, they noticed that the furry animals are reacting differently towards the boy.

Instead of batting their tails, trying to scare off humans, they approached the boy, forming a long lasting friendship.

As soon as the boys presence is felt, they come rushing to say hello.

Mateo’s mother has been documenting the trips and says, “He loves those animals and they are not at all afraid of Matteo because he has a feeling towards them and they understand that.”

There is a something extremely stunning about this unusual relationship.

In nature, this is not natural, yet somehow the two have managed to overcome what we consider natures boundary. Something out of a Disney motion picture, the boy and his furry companions continue to spend a lot of time together.
