Have you ever gone to grandma and grandpa’s house and found a bowl filled with delicious looking fruit? Boy, I could really go for that bright red apple, you think to yourself. You grab the fruit, your mouth salivates in preparation, you take a bit and…you just chomped down on a ball of wax.
Some wax food look really good. So good that they look like the real thing. Most restaurants in Japan display realistic waxed food as it was a practice that began in Gujo town in Gifu. One man demonstrates the process in which to make realistic looking waxed consumables.
It’s a long and delicate craft which requires a lot of patience a precision. Truly, an impressive art form. The man takes us through each step as he pours and manipulates the wax to the form and elasticity he desires. The final product is a wax head of cabbage that looks and feels so real you can eat it. You can’t eat it, but you know what I mean.
