Normally you’d find treasure chests buried somewhere deep underground on an island, at least that’s what old pirate stories would like us to believe, but one man found an old treasure chest, not stowed away by some salty pirate, but by his own great grandfather. What was inside is a different kind of treasure.
Before he found the chest, the only thing he knew about his grandfather was a name. Now he has had the chance to get a glimpse into the life his great grandfather lived during the time of World War I.
Advertising hasn’t changed much over the decades.

A real interesting find was an elixir called “Liquozone”, boasted to cure everything.

A box for a Colt Revolver. The cleaning rod was still inside as well as a bullet and a few letters.

These glasses are also an interesting find.

There was also a couple of books including The Great Controversy Between Christ and Satan.

It was also discovered that his great grandfather was a member of the Freemasons and the Scottish Rite.

He was also a Socialist, which was fairly common of farmers during that time.

He also owned stock in a socialist newspaper.

Not only was this man a farmer, Freemason, Scottish Rite member and a Socialist, he was also part of the Anti Horse Theft Association and the Home Relief Association.

The last thing in the chest was a map. Not a treasure map, but a map of Europe in the early 1900’s.

As we can tell from all the contents of the chest, this great grandfather was a busy man living in a busy time. This blast from the past was a treasure back then, and is still one today. What I wouldn’t give to make a find like that…
