The recent surge of attacks in Syria now have a new contender to watch out for. Say Hi to Maj. Mariam Al Mansouri of the UAE Emirates Air Force. Yes. The UAE will be deploying fire power from their first woman pilot in history against the Islamic Fundamentalist group ISIS. She will be likely to rain pain and anguish down from her F-16 Block 60 fighter. The irony of all of this is that ISIS values the idea of the oppression of women. What will they think now that a woman will be behind some of the more recent air strikes?
Maj. Mariam Al Mansouri, one of eight childeren, with an under-grad in English Literature, will be the first female in UAE history to join the air force since it was permitted back in 2008.
Al Mansouri recently spoke to The National:
“Being in the air force is a responsibility,” she said. “I feel proud, especially that I am part of the first batch. And that encourages me to continue in this field.” she said.
