Performance is just as much art as, well, art. It doesn’t always matter if what you do looks good, as long as you look good doing it, or at least interesting enough to keep a crowd entertained.
Take this street performer. From the average on-looker’s perspective, this guy is just splashing his brush about all willy-nilly to the beat of his music. That’s interesting enough for a watch, he’s owning that groove. Body language says a lot, so when he threw his brushes down, twirled, and started to smear his hands on his painting, the crowd thought it was funny.
But funny was just the half of it.
What appeared to be nonsensical fun with paint was all part of his artistic process. The crowd was shocked when he flipped his canvas to reveal a portrait of martial-arts master and movie star Bruce Lee.
If he had painted the portrait an average, way the crowd wouldn’t have been as impressed. Because it was done in such a unique and intriguing way, he drew in more of a crowd and the pay off of the final reveal was ll the more satisfying.
