On the cold streets of Obninsk, Russia, a 3-month-old baby was abandoned and left to die in a plastic bin. That very well would have happened, it if weren’t for a heroic cat with a golden heart.
A tabby cat by the name of Masha found the baby and climbed into its bin to keep it warm while meowing to bring attention to the infant.
Her meowing paid off as 68-year-old Irina Lavrova heard the meowing as she stepped out to throw away her trash, according to Yahoo! news.
“You can imagine my shock when I saw her lying in a box next to a baby,” Lavrova said. “Clearly her mothering instincts had taken over and she wanted to protect the child. He was well-dressed with a little hat and whoever left him here had even left a few nappies and some baby food.”
The old woman immediately called for help upon discovering the the child.
The baby was taken to a hospital where doctors say the baby has seen no harm or injury. Police investigations are underway to try and find the baby’s mother. Meanwhile, Masha is praised as a hero.
