Early on Sunday, the Texas Department of Health announced that the caretaker of Eric Duncan, the Ebola patient from Liberia, has contracted the disease herself.
She reported having a low fever Friday night and was isolated for testing at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. The test results came back positive.
According to Texas Department of Health Services Commissioner, Dr. David Lakey:
“We knew a second case could be a reality and we’ve been preparing for the possibility. We are broadening our team in Dallas and working with extreme diligence to prevent further spread.”
The caretaker is the second victim of Ebola in the United States but it is possible that there is more since Duncan has been in contact with at least 100 people before he was diagnosed with the virus. 48 of those possible 100 are being monitored.
Back in September, when asked about the threat of Ebola, President Obama replied that the spread of the disease in the states was highly unlikely. Now we have 2 known cases and experts are predicting at least 100 more in the coming days.
