A mother’s love knows no race, creed, or even species! This viral video of a baby elephant being reunited with its mother shows this perfectly.
The baby elephant, Me Bai, was sold into the Thailand tourism trade some years ago after being whisked away from its mother. The elephant worked in the tourism industry for some time before it became too ill and frail from the work of carrying tourists all day.
When the elephant’s health began to decline, she was sent to live in Thailand’s Elephant Nature Park. Me Bai worked around people frequently, but apparently it took some time and coaxing for her to adjust to the park’s caretakers. She may have been subjected to some amount of abuse while in tourism.
The park caretakers located Me Bai’s mother, Mae Yui, and took the steps to reunite them. The video takes place when the two elephants finally met again.
Stories like these are heart warming, but hopefully they’ll become less common with time. Activists and lawmakers in Thailand are actively working to ensure that elephants aren’t separated by traffickers in the first place!
