Perseverance and courage aren’t qualities that are exclusive to humans, as the dog in this video clearly shows.
Theia was a one-year-old stray bulldog that was fed by local farmers in Moses Lake, Washington. After being struck by a car, and believed to be dead, a group of local farmhands noticed the severely injured dog, and decided to “put it out of its misery” by bashing it in the head with a hammer. They then buried the dog in a kind, but misguided attempt at honoring her.
A few days later, Theia appeared at a nearby farmhouse covered in dirt and dried blood. She was then given proper veterinary care at Washington State University for her injured leg, jaw, and broken sinuses (from the hammer).
Luckily, Theia is stable and recovering well. While under the care of WSU Veterinary hospital she was adopted by a new owner, and things only got better from there.
After her story was covered by several news outlets, the donations started pouring in. Her new owners set up a gofundme.com page in order to help cover her costly medical bills and within the first four weeks they’ve received over $27,000 in donations from people that have been touched by her story.
Theia remains happy and playful despite the immense trauma she endured. No more a stray, Theia now has a home and a loving owner that’ll make her second life much better than her previous one.
