A car with two passengers in it was crushed by a shipping container in Qingdao, China, July 26th, 2014.
According to CP World, the car was driving behind a truck that was hauling the container when the truck made a hard swerve to avoid hitting another car. The swerve caused the container to fall off and flatten the car behind the truck.
Two passengers, a man and a woman who have not been identified, were trapped inside. Emergency services assumed the worse and were ready to dispose of the wreckage, until they saw a woman’s arm reach out from the flattened vehicle to give a signal that they were alive.
“We had a call about the accident to say that a [truck] had fallen onto a car. We didn’t expect anybody to be alive but then we heard a woman’s voice and realized that actually somebody had survived,” explained local fire brigade spokesman Chi Tang.
The container had to be lifted by a 100 tonne crane. There was only 60 cm of space left inside of the vehicle yet they were able to pull the woman out easily and safely with only a few cuts and bruises. The man had to be cut free.
Both of the passengers and the truck driver were all taken to a hospital where they all recovered well.
