A Marine Was Asked To Attend A Ceremony, Wasn’t Prepared For What They Had In Store

Bonds forged through conflict are extremely powerful. With this in mind, it’s no wonder why military service people become so attached to their brothers and sisters in arms. This relationship doesn’t only apply to humans. Canine military personnel like bomb sniffers create attachments that are just as intense.

Sgt. Ross Gundlach of the marine corps was assisted by a bomb dog named Kasey for a large chunk of his career. Gundlach and Kasey spent years together until Kasey’s military tour came to an end. Kasey retired to Iowa where she worked with the State Fire Marshall.

Gundlach was determined to reunite with Kasey once he had the chance. He even promised her that they’d stay together forever if they made it home alive. He offered to adopt Kasey, but responses were slow and ambiguous. But when Gundlach arrived at what he thought was a normal Armed Service Day ceremony, he had no idea what would happen next.

In a stroke of good fortune, the State Fire Marshall of Iowa saw Gundlach’s letters and knew that her place was with Gundlach. Kasey was given to Gundlach at the ceremony permanently. The two of them couldn’t have been happier.
