Sergeant Amir Hekmati has been jailed in Iran for the last three years on charges of being a U.S. spy. Although the U.S. has denied these accusations and has asked Iran to release the Marine veteran, he remains in an Iranian prison on a 10-year sentence.
On Thursday, one of Amir’s friends and fellow Marine, Sgt. Gabriel Justice held no punches when describing his feeling towards the President’s efforts to bring Amir home.
He told Fox News Host, Greta Van Susteren:
“Amir is not just a U.S. citizen, he’s my warrior brother, a United States Marine,” Justice said. “I am absolutely appalled, and I am disgusted with our president for his lack of effort in getting him back.”
Justice says that Obama’s calling for his release during a brief video made to honor Norwuz, the Iranian New Year, wasn’t enough.
Talk show host and Marine veteran Montel Williams has been a strong advocate for Amir’s release. He has set up a fundraiser to assist with the efforts in bringing the jailed veteran home.
