If you’ve ever lost an animal, then you know that it can be heart wrenching. However for one girl in Vietnam, losing her childhood pet had a special sting.
This 5-year-old Vietnamese girl adopted a lovely dog named Flower. For the next three years, she raised and cared for Flower as a member of her family. However, one day, Flower went missing without a trace.
The girl searched high and low for her missing companion, but had no luck. However, she would find her dog again in the worst circumstance possible.
A few days later, the girl was walking past a dog meat stall (which is quite common in Vietnam) only to discover that one of the carcasses belonged to her dog Flower.
The photo taken of this heartbreaking scene went viral almost immediately. Because of the image, there have been international appeals to ban the sale and consumption of dog meat.
Stories like Flower’s aren’t as uncommon as they should be, as consuming dog meat is still a common practice in several Asian countries. Hopefully this issue will be seeing some major changes in the near future.
