An unnamed college athlete at the University of North Carolina turned in one of the most pathetic final papers that we’ve ever seen, and even more outrageous was the grade that they received on it — an A-.
The paper was released in an ESPN interview by Mary Willingham, a tutor that works with the school’s student athletes. The tutor-turned-whistle blower was outraged at the school’s willingness to look the other way when it comes to the academic qualifications of their student athletes. She believes that UNC is “robbing” their athletes of a proper education.
“Some of these students could read at maybe a second- or third-grade level. But for an adult that is considered illiterate,” she told ESPN.
The paper that sparked the controversy, can be seen in its entirety below.
After reading it it seems that the question shouldn’t be why the student received an A-, but why they were even admitted to the school in the first place. It seems that for the revenue producing student athletes the term “institute of higher education” doesn’t apply.
