It was business as usual for Zara Adil at the Discount Tobacco Zone where she works, until two armed robbers pointed a gun at her and demanded money. The clerk at the Lexington, Kentucky, made a quick decision, however, and had the thieves begging for their lives by the time it was over.
As one of the men pillaged through the cash register, he placed his gun down next to it. That’s when Zara saw an opportunity and grabbed it.
She described the incident to WTVQ-TV reporters, “I picked up the gun and pointed it at the second guy and said you run or I will shoot you,”
The entire incident was captured on a surveillance camera in the store. After she threatened to shoot him, one of the robbers runs away, then she turns to the man behind the register and offers him an opportunity to flee. He refuses, and goes for the cash anyways, so she shoots him in the shoulder.
The gunshot wasn’t enough to deter him, and he continues to go for the cash, trying to make his way out with the entire register drawer. She was able to wrestle it away from him before he ultimately leaves. Police have since issued a warrant for on of the men, identified as Darnell Thomas.
The brave woman added: “If more people stand up, they won’t have that much courage to go around and do what they’re doing.”
