Freshmen Michael Pallock of Vanderbilt University got to live out his dream when musician Billy Joel came to the university for a Q&A.
He managed to get the mic and tell Joel, “My favorite song of yours is ‘New York State of Mind, was very fortunate to play with Richie Cannata (Joel’s saxophone player) many times in New York City and I was wondering if I could play it with you.” The crowd was shocked when Joel simply says “Okay”.
The musician asked Pallock what key he usually plays the song in. Pallock was quick with wit and replied, “What key do you want it in?” He begins to play the piano and the crowd goes wild. Joel puts on his signature sunglasses and belts out while Pallock played the piano.
It was a wonderful performance and one Pallock will surely remember for the rest of his life. What could possibly make you feel better than hearing your idol say “remember that name”?
