A New York Suburb Raised A Deer After It’s Mother Died, And Now It Roams The Town Gracefully

Most towns have a neighborhood cat or two that people will feed and take care of, maybe give them a name. Well Pulaski, Syracuse, has something just a little bit bigger than a cat; they have a neighborhood deer.

The story begins in 2009 when a car struck a mother deer, leaving the baby all alone. A nearby farmer took the deer calf in, giving it shelter in the barn and supplying it with food. The farmer’s kids named the deer “Bella”.

Once bella was old enough, she ventured her way into town visiting the banks of the Salmon River. The locals noticed her and soon came to realize that this deer was somewhat domesticated. Now the whole town knows her. She’ll play with the dogs at the park, visit the children at elementary school, sit on people’s porches, catch up with joggers and eat whatever the townsfolk give her.

The citizens even made her own Facebook page so people can keep up to date with Bella. In most cases, a deer like Bella would be put down due to safety and health regulations, but she seems to be a special case. The townsfolk give her regular flea and tick medication and she even knows how to cross the street!

Bella is sure to stay in the heart of Pulaski for generations.
