Mom’s Heartbreaking Story Will Convince You To Say “No” Less

Mom's Heartbreaking Story Will Convince You To Say

“Can I have ice cream before dinner?” “No!”

“Can I get this?” “No!”

“Can we watch Frozen again?” “No!”

As parents and grandparents, we all do it.  We say no to things our children and grandchildren ask.  We get tired of watching or listening to the same things over and over; we know it’s not good for them.

Sometimes we have to say no, but sometimes we say no just because…

One mom is urging other parents to say no less.  Because, life’s too short.

In a Facebook post, Rachel Ann Carpenter shared the story of her daughter Nevaeh, who was 9, who asked to dye her hair pink.

“I initially said no because I know how judgmental people can be when it comes to children with colored hair,” Carpenter said in a Facebook post. “I also figured since she was only 9 she had her whole life to change her hair if she wanted!”

Carpenter told her daughter no.  What would people think if she allowed her daughter to dye her hair an unnatural color?

Not long after her daughter asked to dye her hair pink, Nevaeh went away to summer camp.

While at camp, a horrific accident occurred and her daughter sustained sever burns to 70% of her body.

“A few days later at a camp they were doing a demonstration involving fire and something went wrong and it caught her on fire. She had horrible burns over 70% of her body. This time last year we were in the hospital with her not knowing if she was going to live or not.”

Amazingly, Nevaeh survived.

Nearly a year later, Nevaeh asked again to dye her hair pink.

This time, Carpenter told her daughter yes, she could dye her hair.

“Just because someone is young does not mean they are promised time,” Carpenter says. “I was so glad she was still here to ask me. It is just hair, hair color will fade. Something so easy as colored hair made her extremely happy.”

Life is short. We’re not promised any time here and we never know how much time we have with our loved ones. Stress less about the little things. Laugh, love and enjoy this short time we’re given here.

Life’s too short for negativity! Do you agree? Let us know!
