Facebook post about elderly man's encounter with Walmart cashier goes viral

A story about a Walmart cashier’s act of kindness towards an elderly gentleman has gone viral on Facebook.

During the busy holiday shopping season, Walmart shopper Spring Herbison Bowlin witnessed a a touching moment between a Walmart cashier, Tracy Conner, and an elderly man who was in line in front of her.

In this “hurry up, I don’t want to wait world”, we’re used to rushing through our tasks.  We don’t want to wait in long lines.  We want to get our errands done. But what happened in line this day was worth waiting for.

The man in front of Bowlin was frantically counting his change to pay for his groceries.  Compelled by some sense of urgency, while the man was frantically trying to count the change.

“This gentleman’s items were scanned and he was given the total. He looks apologetically back at me and starts taking handfuls of change out of his pockets. He miscounts and starts to get flustered. Gives me a muttered, ‘I’m so sorry.’ His hands and voice are shaking,” Bowling posted.

The cashier calmly grabbed the man’s hands, dumped his change on the counter and kindly assured the man, “This is not a problem, honey. We will do this together.”

This kind of kindness is not always seen or awarded.  What a wonderful reminder to always be kind to one another and to slow down.  Share the good news.

In a Facebook post, Bolwin shared the story.

My heart was warmed at Wal-Mart during lunch.
This gentleman’s items were scanned and he was given the total. He looks apologetically back at me and starts taking handfuls of change out of his pockets. He miscounts and starts to get flustered. Gives me a muttered, “I’m so sorry.” His hands and voice are shaking. This beautiful cashier takes his hands and dumps all the change on the counter and says, “This is not a problem, honey. We will do this together.” He continues to apologize to both of us as we reassure him it’s ok. They get his transaction handled and he shuffles away.
I looked at this wonderful woman and said, “Thank-you for being so patient with him.”
She shakes her head and replies, “You shouldn’t have to thank me, baby. What’s wrong with our world is we’ve forgotten how to love one another.”
I want to be more like her.
