SMSgt Mark Coffelt had been deployed for 8 months. While he was away, his 8-year-old son Ronin missed his dad terribly. He frequently asked his mom for his dad’s return.
On this day, Ronin’s mom tells him she has a surprise. He unwraps a box full of letters. He thinks the letters mean that his dad has been deployed longer.
The last letter Ronin opens says “Surprise!”
Ronin looks up and his dad walks in.
Ronin is overcome with tears of joy. He runs to his father and jumps into his arms, saying, “Daddy, I missed you. I love you.”
