A band director at Garrett High School in Garrett, Indiana posted a story on Facebook recently after he noticed several teachers and administrators were wearing sneakers instead of dress shoes at the graduation ceremony. He found their casual footwear “quite odd and out of character” until he discovered this.

Paul MarlowTonight at our Graduation Ceremony I noticed that my Principal Matt Smith was wearing tennis shoes with his suit. I can honestly say I thought it was quite odd and out of character for him.
I then noticed Bill Thomas, a teacher who handles the sound for Graduation was also wearing tennis shoes. Again odd and out of character for him.
After the ceremony, I found out that both had surrendered their dress shoes to two young men that did not have proper shoes for Graduation.
What an amazing example of the kind and caring people that I get to work with every day! Thanks for being a great example to our young people.
Garrett High School is a small school with less than 600 students enrolled. Of those 600 students, 44% of those are considered to be “economically disadvantaged.”
Fortunately the teachers, administrators, and staff at Garrett High School care enough about their students to give them the shirts off their backs or even the shoes off their feet.
“That’s what teachers do every single day,” commented one Facebook user.
