At first glance, you’d swear it wasn’t real. It looks like an imaginary concept designed by a surrealist artist. But believe it or not, the bridge isn’t only a real—it’s thriving. It turns out that they do things a little differently on the other side of the globe.
The Eshima Ohashi bridge, located in Sakaiminato, Japan, is something like you’ve never seen before. And it looks absolutely terrifying.
Its gravity defying and practically vertical-looking elements makes one wonder how anyone even manages to drive on it.
Nicknamed “The Roller Coaster Bridge,” the bridge spans Lake Nakaumi to connect to the cities of Matsue and Sakaiminato. It was constructed with a high upward slope to allow ships to pass underneath through a busy river.
The Roller Coaster Bridge is a popular attraction for thrill-seeking tourists. As scary as it looks, there have been no reported accidents on the towering bridge which as Snopes reported, is actually more gradual than it appears.
