9/11 mastermind says ‘Cowboy’ George W. Bush’s swift military response ruined their plans for another attack

Khalid Sheik Mohammed, one of the terrorists that masterminded the 9/11 attacks, boasted about beheading Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl and “preened” as he reenacted the brutal act so that investigators could verify his claim, stated writer James E. Mitchell in a new memoir.

The book also cited some particularly intriguing comments made by Mohammed regarding former President George W. Bush’s response to the tragic Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, an event that cost the lives of almost 3,000 people.

Bush had ordered an immediate and hard-hitting military response that was significantly criticized by both the right and left over the years. However, in Mitchell’s memoir, “Enhanced Interrogation: Inside the Minds and Motives of the Islamic Terrorists Trying to Destroy America” Mohammed stated that the former President’s military response struck al-Qaeda forcefully and completely left them powerless to undertake secondary attacks as planned.

The Washington Post cited an excerpt from the book:

“Then he looked at me and said, ‘How was I supposed to know that cowboy George Bush would announce he wanted us ‘dead or alive’ and then invade Afghanistan to hunt us down?'” Mitchell wrote. “KSM explained that if the United States had treated 9/11 like a law enforcement matter, he would have had time to launch a second wave of attacks.

“He was not able to do so because al-Qaeda was stunned ‘by the ferocity and swiftness of George W. Bush’s response.’

“But KSM said something else that was prophetic. In the end, he told Mitchell, ‘We will win because Americans don’t realize … we do not need to defeat you militarily; we only need to fight long enough for you to defeat yourself by quitting.'”

Mohammed also claimed that “jihadi-minded brothers would immigrate to the United States” and use the country’s laws and rights to their advantage until they could launch an attack.

“He said the brothers would relentlessly continue their attacks and the American people would eventually become so tired, so frightened, and so weary of war that they would just want it to end,” Mitchell wrote.

“Eventually, America will expose her neck for us to slaughter,” Mohammed said.
